Canterbury Road ClosuresMar 2, 2017
TIL would like to advise that due to the large scrub fire currently burning near the main highway in North Canterbury, and resultant road closures, we can not guarantee that freight movements through this area of NZ will arrive within normal time frames over the next 24 hours.
This closure is on the Alternative State Highway being used by all Interisland units.
The delays in place will add up to 3 hours transit time to the already extended route in place post the November Earthquake.
We thank our customers for their understanding while we adjust to this situation and work through any delays that may occur with your freight.
Below is the latest information received:
State Highway 7 is closed between Culverden and Springs Junction. The road became the alternative State Highway 1 after the November earthquake caused significant damage to the coastal road.
A Christchurch Transport Operations Centre spokesman said the only other road between Murchison and Canterbury for northbound traffic was via Porters and Arthurs passes (SH73), Reefton (SH7) and on to Murchison (SH69 and SH6). The opposite applied for southbound traffic.
Motorists should delay their travel or allow an extra two-and-a-half hours for the detour. It was unknown how long SH7 would be closed for.
